There's a hidden fire hazard in your home - it's your dryer vent!
Special Report on House Fires
The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission has issued a special report detailing the fire hazards related to lint in clothes dryers and dryer vents. Approximately 15,000 fires per year are attributed to excessive lint in dryers and dryer vents. Additionally, dozens of deaths and millions of dollars of property damage occur as a result of these fires. Fires can occur when lint builds up in the dryer or in the exhaust duct. Lint can block the flow of air, cause excessive build-up and can result in a fire in dryers and where they are located.
Dryer Vent Cleaning
Prevent Dryer Fires with regular dryer vent and dryer chassis cleaning
Over time, your dryer vent fills with lint that sneaks by your dryer's filter, which makes your dryer work harder to dry your clothes.
Restricted airflow, lint build-up and moisture cause overheating that prevents fast drying action. When this happens, the temperature limit safety switches cycle on and off continuously and will fail over a period of time and increase the possibility of a dangerous dryer fire.
You can save Money every month on your dryer bills if you keep your vent system free of lint. Symptoms of a clogged dryer vent include moisture in the laundry room and clothes taking greater than 45 minutes to dry.
Clogged Dryer Vent Equals Wasted Energy & Money
If you notice that your clothes are taking longer than normal to dry, you could be seeing the first signs of a clogged dryer vent. Before looking for a new dryer go outside and check for two things.
•First, how is the air flow? Is it hot, can you feel the air flow on your hands?
•Is there an obvious amount of lint build up on or around the dryer exhaust?
When the dryer vent line is clogged air can not flow properly. This causes your dryer to work harder than it should be, thus wasting you more energy and money.
When a dryer vent line builds up excess lint it can be a danger for two reason.
•The lint clogges the pipe preventing the steam to properly vent out. From here the steam has nowhere to go and turns into
condensation. Eventually the pipe will fill up with water and drip back down to your dryer.
•The second danger can happen when the pipe becomes clogged and due to the excess heat from the dryer it can actually catch on fire.
